The football world has lost a true legend. Giorgi Nemsadze, the former Georgia captain and midfield maestro who graced Dundee during the Scottish club's golden era, has passed away at 54 following a heart attack. Dinamo Tbilisi, the club where Nemsadze's career began and ended, announced the news with profound sadness, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across Georgian sport and beyond.

Nemsadze's journey took him across Europe's biggest stages. Before landing at Dundee in 2000, he had already made his mark at Hamburg, Trabzonspor, Grasshoppers, Reggiana, and Locomotive Tbilisi. His three-year spell at Dens Park coincided with Dundee's high-spending ambitions under boss Ivano Bonetti—the same period that saw Argentine striker Claudio Caniggia arrive. Over his international career, Nemsadze earned 69 caps for Georgia, captaining the national team with the grit and style that defined his playing approach. The Scottish Premiership club inducted him into its hall of fame in 2010, cementing his legacy in Scottish football.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze paid his respects, describing Nemsadze as an outstanding professional whose fighting spirit and distinctive style left an indelible mark on Georgian sport. After hanging up his boots, Nemsadze gave back to the game through coaching and management roles, working with youth development and leading clubs including Shevardeni Tbilisi, Dila Gori, and Dinamo. His influence stretched far beyond his playing days, shaping the next generation of Georgian talent and remaining a respected figure in the country's football ecosystem.
