CAF Deploys Inspection Team To Nigeria Ahead Of Awards, General Assembly
Retold by Oddsrama · 15 October 2026
Nigeria is gearing up for two major continental football events, and CAF has sent inspectors to make sure everything runs smoothly. A 15-member delegation from the Confederation of African Football's Lagos office will touch down in Nigeria on Friday to conduct final checks on venues and facilities hosting the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony.
The General Assembly kicks off in Abuja on Saturday, November 21 at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre. Five days later, Lagos takes centre stage when the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts hosts the 2026 CAF Awards on Monday, December 7 — Africa's biggest annual football honours. Led by CAF's Head of Safety and Security Dr. Christian Emeruwa, the inspection team will meet with venue operators, hotels, airport authorities, and local government representatives in both cities to ensure standards meet CAF's expectations. A complementary NFF delegation led by Dr. Ademola Olajire will accompany the visits.
This is CAF's second inspection round. The first sweep in late July and early August resulted in commitments to maintain close coordination between the organizers and the continental body. That groundwork appears to have helped smooth the path for this final review. The visits underscore the scale and prestige of hosting these events — security, logistics, and hospitality all matter when continental football officials and award recipients converge on your country.
For betting markets, hosting major CAF events can boost a nation's profile and sometimes spike engagement with local football. Nigeria's football ecosystem will be in the spotlight, potentially lifting interest in the domestic league and the Super Eagles heading into the tournament season.
