Arteta told Arsenal job cuts will help create success

Arsenal have announced the axing of 60 jobs across the club, affecting roughly seven per cent of their 871-strong permanent workforce. Chief executive Richard Garlick confirmed the cuts this week, though coaching and performance staff in both the men's and women's departments remain untouched. The redundancies will focus on off-the-field roles, with the Arsenal Foundation, Arsenal in the Community, and security positions also spared from the layoffs.
Manager Mikel Arteta was briefed on the decision and defended it as a strategic move to fund success. Speaking before Sunday's trip to Nottingham Forest, the Spanish boss acknowledged an external review had been conducted and stressed the club needed to reallocate resources to the right areas. While Arteta was reluctant to dive deep into the topic, calling it "not for me" to fully address, he emphasised the cuts are meant to help Arsenal "achieve the success we want to create." His comments come just a week after he penned a new four-year contract worth £10m annually plus £5m in bonuses—a reward for guiding the Gunners to the Premier League title last season.
The timing is notable given Arsenal's financial position. The club posted record revenues of £691m for the 2024-25 financial year, yet still recorded an overall loss of £1.4m. Operating costs spiralled to £200.8m, nearly £53m more than the previous year. From a betting perspective, Arsenal's investment in their playing squad and infrastructure continues, but tighter off-field spending could signal a focus on maintaining competitive advantage rather than splashing fresh cash on transfers. With top-four credentials already proven, punters should monitor squad depth heading into key fixtures.
