Barcelona complete signing of Arsenal striker Jesus

Gabriel Jesus has completed his move to Barcelona on a permanent transfer, ending his three-year stint at Arsenal. The Brazilian striker joined the La Liga champions for £8.6 million after passing his medical on Monday. This deal caps off a deadline-day decision that was perhaps unexpected given Jesus's pedigree, but understandable once you consider his recent situation at the Emirates.

At Arsenal, Jesus had fallen behind in the pecking order, largely due to persistent injury problems that limited his availability. With Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres establishing themselves as Mikel Arteta's preferred options up front, the 26-year-old found opportunities hard to come by. During his time with the Gunners from 2022 onwards, Jesus managed 32 goals and 22 assists across 123 appearances—solid numbers, though injuries clearly cost him consistency. Napoli had circled around the deal, but Barcelona's pull proved stronger, and the Spanish champions acted decisively to secure another Premier League exit this summer.

Barcelona's recruitment drive from England has been notable: Jesus joins Anthony Gordon (from Newcastle) and Rodri (from Manchester City) as Premier League arrivals. The club had also been chasing Julian Alvarez from Atlético Madrid, but that pursuit looks unlikely to materialize now. On Arsenal's side, the outgoings continue—Fabio Vieira has moved to Hamburg, while Ethan Nwaneri edges closer to a loan deal with Borussia Dortmund.

From a betting standpoint, Jesus's departure could subtly shift how Arsenal are viewed in the striking department heading into the second half of the season. With Havertz and Gyokeres already embedded, expect those two to see even more minutes and be backed heavily in individual performance markets. Barcelona, meanwhile, add another attacking option to their La Liga title push, potentially strengthening their odds in the league race.
