4th Abig Nwankwo Foundation Unity Tournament Set To Light Up Yuletide In Okija

Retold by Oddsrama · 21 October 2026

Okija in Anambra State is gearing up for a major grassroots football celebration as the Abig Nwankwo Foundation prepares to host the fourth edition of its Unity Tournament. All nine villages from the local government area will compete across December 2026 and into early January, with the grand finale scheduled for 7 January 2027. The tournament has become a symbol of community cohesion, bringing together young talent and residents in what promises to be a fiercely contested battle for local pride and significant prize money.

The financial incentives have been ramped up considerably this year. Champions will pocket ₦5 million alongside gold medals, while runners-up claim ₦3 million and silver honours. Third place earns ₦2 million and bronze medals, and notably, all nine competing villages will receive something—the six remaining teams each get ₦200,000 as consolation prizes. This structure ensures broad participation and keeps the competitive spirit alive throughout the tournament. Previous winner Ubahu Village, who edged Ubahumonum in an extra-time thriller last year, will be among the favourites to defend their status.

Founder Chief Chimezie Ken Nwankwo has made clear the tournament's purpose extends beyond football alone. The initiative focuses on youth development, providing a legitimate outlet for emerging talent while steering young people away from negative influences. All matches will be held at Okija Central School Pitch, with opening ceremonies and the final carrying carnival-like atmospheres designed to attract regional dignitaries, traditional rulers, and industry leaders. From a betting perspective, the elevated prize pool and heightened community investment suggest heightened intensity and commitment from participating teams—worth monitoring for form and momentum as the tournament unfolds.
